YOUNGSDG Annual Bulletin: Empowering a New Generation of Global Leaders
The Erasmus+ project, Global Youth for SDGs: Empowering Future Leaders (or @YOUNGSDG), has released its annual news bulletin, detailing a year of significant progress in empowering young people aged 17–25 to become active global citizens engaged with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through innovative, inclusive, and digitally focused learning activities, the project has successfully guided youth from mere awareness to designing and implementing their own local actions and campaigns. Cornerstone Resources and Collaborative Foundations A core achievement of the project has been the creation of two key intellectual outputs, which serve as the pedagogical backbone for youth empowerment: These resources were formally endorsed at an evaluation workshop held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, in June 2025, where partners gathered to review progress and align on future strategy. Amplifying the Youth Voice in the Digital Realm The project successfully delivered Output 03, the Universal SDGYOUTH Civil Public Service Announcement (CPSA). This initiative, led by YouthX in July 2025, was geared towards empowering young people as digital content creators and advocates for the SDGs. During practical online sessions, young participants collaborated to co-create a range of communications materials, including posters, short animated videos, and digital messages using tools such as Canva and Powtoon. This vibrant content, designed to present the SDGs in a fresh and youth-friendly way, now forms part of the project’s central digital hub. Action and Innovation: The Berlin Bootcamp A major highlight of the year was the intensive, three-day ‘Sustainable Futures Lab: SDG Action Bootcamp’ in Berlin, Germany, which took place in early September 2025. Hosted by YouthX, the programme moved beyond theory by combining SDG fundamentals with hands-on Project Labs and a design-thinking exercise. Participants worked in teams to develop concrete, actionable projects for implementation within their own local communities, an intensive process which significantly strengthened their leadership, creativity, and advocacy skills. Culmination and Future Planning The project’s intensive phase culminated with the two-day Regional Sustainability Symposium – Unveiling Success, Inspiring Futures (Output 05), held on 8–9 December 2025. The first day focused on sharing overall project results, including inspiring success stories from youth participants who showcased their local SDG actions and pilot workshops implemented using the project’s training resources. The second day was highly interactive, featuring a ‘Project Outputs Workshop’ where participants implemented activities directly from the SDG YOUNG Training Guide, trying out formats such as interactive games, storytelling exercises, and project labs. A vital part of the discussion focused on adapting these tools to different regional realities and ensuring the better inclusion of under-represented youth. The event concluded with an ‘Action Planning for Future Collaborations’ session, mapping out potential joint projects to maintain the momentum and spirit of @YOUNGSDG beyond the project’s lifetime. The first phase of the Global Youth for SDGs project has been immensely successful, not just in creating high-quality outputs, but in building a strong network of young changemakers. All educational materials, good practices, and project outcomes are centralised on the SDGYOUTH Digital Platform (Output 04), making them accessible to a wider audience and helping to confirm the potential of young people as powerful drivers of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
