Youth Empowerment for the SDGs: A Practical Methodology

The SDG YOUTH Methodology Handbook has been developed within the Erasmus+ project Global Youth for SDGs: Empowering Future Leaders (@YOUNGSDG), through the collaboration of three organisations from Spain, Türkiye, and Germany, working together to support young people as active agents of change for sustainability and global justice.

The handbook offers a structured, modular approach to learning about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is designed for youth workers, educators, and organisations seeking to implement SDG-focused educational activities that are participatory, inclusive, and action-oriented.

📖 Inside the handbook:

  • Eight interconnected modules covering topics such as understanding the SDGs, linking local action to global impact, digital empowerment, leadership, advocacy, and creative problem-solving.
  • Practical strategies and activities that bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world application.
  • Guidance on inclusivity and accessibility to ensure all participants can engage meaningfully.
  • Tools for project planning, stakeholder engagement, and impact assessment, helping young people transform ideas into sustainable initiatives.

By combining personal empowerment with global impact, the methodology fosters a sense of responsibility and confidence among young people. It highlights the importance of acting locally while thinking globally, preparing participants to lead, collaborate, and innovate in ways that contribute directly to the 2030 Agenda.

The SDG YOUNG Training Guide: From Learning to Action

The SDG YOUNG Training Guide has been developed within the Erasmus+ project Global Youth for SDGs: Empowering Future Leaders (@YOUNGSDG), through the collaboration of Consulta Europa (Spain), ECO-IN (Türkiye), and YouthX (Germany). Designed as the practical complement to the project’s methodology, the Guide supports youth workers and educators in delivering accessible, dynamic, and action-oriented SDG learning experiences.

📘 Inside the Training Guide:

  • Flexible training plans including 5-day, 3-day, and SDG-specific workshops adaptable to different contexts and groups.
  • Interactive and experiential activities such as mapping exercises, simulations, storytelling, design thinking, and creative challenges.
  • Digital tools and gamified learning, offering online platforms, multimedia resources, quizzes, and collaborative web tools.
  • Practical project labs guiding young people through problem analysis, brainstorming, prototyping, action planning, and presentation of local SDG initiatives.
  • Inclusive facilitation guidance to ensure all participants can engage meaningfully regardless of background or learning style.
  • Concrete calls to action, supporting youth in continuing their engagement through community projects, advocacy, and sustainable habits.

The Guide leads young people from understanding the SDGs to identifying local challenges and designing realistic solutions. By integrating creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork, it strengthens their confidence as active contributors to the 2030 Agenda.

Ultimately, the SDG YOUNG Training Guide encourages young people to move from learning to action, equipping them with the knowledge, tools, and motivation to become changemakers within their communities and beyond.
